As a Leader in staffing and workforce solutions for the modern day business, the Surge Staffing is a professional staffing and solutions firm specializing in temporary staffing, permanent placement and workforce management. We are currently seeking a full-time permanent Network Engineer to work in our corporate office located in Columbus, OH.

The Network Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the day-to-day operation of computer networks that companies and organizations rely on. These networks typically include an intranet, extranet, local area network (LAN), and wide area network (WAN).

To be a successful candidate, you will need to have a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. You will also need to be able to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including WAPs, Firewalls, Routers, and Switches. A deep knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols is highly desired.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and administering L2/L3 networks including hardware, software, and configurations.
  • Monitor, analyze and report performance on enterprise wide LAN/WAN communications infrastructure
  • Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures.
  • Understands internet architecture and firewall configuration to protect system security.
  • Provide tier-2 network support to other members of the IT team
  • Focus on network diagnostics, opening and maintaining trouble tickets, troubleshoot network problems to resolution, escalate to vendors if necessary.
  • Replacing faulty network hardware components when required.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain fiber and copper cabling infrastructures
  • Experience managing multi-site network environments
  • Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.
  • Conferring with network users about solving existing system problems.
  • Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
  • Ensure a proper life cycle and documentation for the site infrastructure and services under your responsibility staying in line with the team(s) standards and guidelines;
  • Diagram, document, configure and install layer 2/3 networks
  • Participate in the definition of network standards and technology roadmap in collaboration with the other team members.
  • Conducts network planning, network architecture design and engineering.

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, Enterprise Class Next Generation Firewalls, Switches and Routers.
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection.
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
  • Network security experience.
  • LAN and WAN experience.
  • Experience with encryption and tunneling technologies such as IPSec, and IKE
  • Experience with network security technologies such as URL filtering, SSL introspection, L7 inspection, IPSEC VPNs
  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
  • Experience working in a highly active and secure 24/7 environment
  • Ability to explain complex IT concepts in simple terms
  • Ability to manage high priority projects
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization.
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable and flexible when necessary
  • Be a positive, accountable team player
